Would you like to have the quality of your coffee objectively assessed? Barista Studio supports coffee roasters, importers, retailers, and hospitality business owners with professional quality controls in accordance with international standards.
The quality of coffee is determined by much more than just flavor. The quality of the green bean, the roast, the balance of a blend, and the final sensory characteristics also play an important role. Our Q-Grading and quality controls provide you with insight into both the strengths and areas for improvement in your coffee.
Whether you want to have a single sample evaluated, are developing a new blend, or need an official quality classification for specialty coffee, Barista Studio conducts every evaluation independently and with care. You’ll always receive a clear report with findings and practical recommendations to help you further improve the quality of your coffee.

At Barista Studio , all quality assessments are conducted by Laurens Da Costa, a certified Arabica Q Grader. This internationally recognized certification is used worldwide to evaluate the quality of specialty coffee in an objective and standardized manner.
Thanks to his extensive knowledge of green coffee, branding, and sensory analysis, Laurens looks beyond just a score. Every evaluation is translated into practical insights that allow you to actually improve the quality of your coffee. Whether it’s an import sample, a new blend, or an official quality classification, you can count on an independent assessment, clear reporting, and expert advice.
A Q Grader is an internationally certified coffee professional who evaluates coffee according to the official guidelines of the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) and the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). This ensures that coffees are evaluated worldwide in an objective and standardized manner.
Our quality assessments are suitable for coffee roasters, importers, retailers, hospitality businesses, and private labels. We can also help you if you’d like a second opinion on an existing coffee or blend.
A Sensory Quick Scan provides a quick overview of a coffee’s flavor, quality, and areas for improvement, but does not result in an official SCA score or Q Grading classification. An official Q Grading follows international protocols and results in a recognized quality assessment.
This varies by assessment. For a Sensory Quick Scan, Green Coffee Assessment, and Blend Development & Evaluation, we receive 400 grams of coffee. For an official Q Grading assessment, we receive 1,000 grams of green coffee.
Yes. After each assessment, you will receive a clear and concise report detailing our findings. Depending on the type of analysis selected, this report will include sensory results, quality findings, scores, and practical recommendations for improvement.
No. An official SCA score or Q Grading classification is only available for single-origin coffees. For blends, we offer a comprehensive Blend Development & Evaluation service, in which we assess the balance, flavor, and composition and provide recommendations for potential improvements.
The turnaround time depends on the type of evaluation you choose and the number of samples. Once we receive the coffee, we'll let you know when you can expect the results.
At Barista Studio, all evaluations are conducted by a certified Q Grader. You’ll receive an independent evaluation based on international standards, a clear report, and personalized advice to help you further improve the quality of your coffee.
